Specialising in women’s health takes into account psychoneuroimmunology, which explores
the way behaviour and emotions influence the nervous and immune systems. Healing
both the mind and body is imperative. The whole patient is attended to, not just
a diseased part, but any sexual concerns, insomnia, work problems, family concerns,
anxiety, depression, phobias to pre-menstrual syndrome, eating disorders and chronic
pain.
Frequently health care workers miss mental illness and emotional disturbances. Mind
disorders can have physical consequences, and disorders of the body can lead to emotional
disturbance. For example, a female during menopause may become depressed due to experiencing
hot flushes; night sweats and becomes deprived of sleep, therefore unable to function
at work or daytime activities.
Women, who work, frequently feel stressed as they try to balance work and family
life, especially single mothers. Finding childcare, concerns about wages, finding
chances of promotion to be reduced because of pregnancy or caring for children, poor
relationships with their partner, contribute to the stresses and strains of women’s
health. Suppressing anger and impatience, behaviour more frequent in women, may increase
the chances of developing hypertension, headaches, obesity and depression.
I am not a healer but rather I assist females, find why they do what they do, getting
rid of repressions and old habit forming issues, resolving and therefore aiding recovery.
Women have the power to heal themselves with these kind of problems.
Eating Disorders
As already mentioned in suggestion therapy, If being overweight is not due to a psychological
problem, suggestion therapy can greatly assist you to reduce weight and motivate
you to increase your exercise. CBT and the forming of a new eating habit is the key
to maintaining a target weight and figure more easily.
Bulimia
Most people who have this eating disorder have experienced emotional or psychological
problems, and are frequently depressed. Cognitive behavioural therapy is used to
change eating behaviour, and form new better habits and control of eating and more
specifically finding and changing the underlying problems that created bulimia in
the first place.
PMT
Psychological symptoms include irritability, anxiety, depression, lack of concentration,
sleep disturbance and eating problems. Physical symptoms can be fluid retention,
headaches, lethargy, nausea, constipation / diarrhoea, backpain and pelvic pain.
Although the cause is not known, it is thought that hormonal changes and neurotransmitters
in the brain such as serotonin, dopamine and nor-adrenaline are altered. A frequent
complaint by the female is the loss of control.
CBT techniques for creating a greater degree of control for the female, also by reducing
anxiety, addressing depression, significantly assist in providing higher confidence,
self-esteem, and more control.
Women’s Sexual Dysfunction
Sexual dysfunction is difficulty during any part of the sexual act, which includes
desire, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction that prevents the individual or partner
from enjoying sexual activity. These Sexual difficulties can begin at any time, but
many experience problems developing early on in their life or after previously experienced
enjoyable and satisfying sex. A sexual problem may develop gradually over time, or
may occur suddenly as a total or partial inability to participate in one or more
areas of the sexual act.
The causes of sexual difficulties can be physical, psychological, or both, and frequently
begin in the early adult years, with the majority of people seeking assistance from
a therapist for such conditions during their late twenties and thirties.
The incidence begins to increase again in the older population, typically with gradual
onset of symptoms that are associated most commonly with medical gynaecological causes.
Sexual dysfunction is more common in people who abuse alcohol, especially binge drinking
and illicit drugs, and many other medications such as anti-hypertensive and anti-depressant
medications.
Those suffering from diabetes and degenerative neurological disorders, or emotional
psychological problems, stress, anxiety and women that have difficulty maintaining
relationships or chronic sexual, physical or mental abuse with the current sexual
partner, can also interfere with sexual functioning.
Anorexia Nervosa
To obtain the best results, CBT is used for this particular disorder. The biggest
problem is that the person denies that they have a problem, and so it is unusual
for them to seek assistance, until the condition becomes life threatening.
